People have lived in and around the Afon Mynwy for thousands of years. Traces of a neolithic dwelling built on oak stilts have been uncovered by archaeologists and a bronze age boat building community also called it home.
The Romans settled in what is the town we see today.
It's been the subject of many a siege, war and territorial disagreement with the town leaving Wales on occasion into Herefordshire, before coming home...
